Nitrogen welding preserves, and in some cases improves, the mechanical properties of the repaired component.
Air oxidises all materials in all fusion welding techniques. The flow of nitrogen protects the welding zone from oxidation, preventing premature ageing of the repair, and consequent weakening of the repaired area, leading to breakage.
In addition to this protection, nitrogen prevents the inclusion of impurities contained in the ambient air, as well as the formation of air bubbles in the fusion bath.
Impurities and air bubbles are the precursors of breakage when the repaired part is subjected to high stress. Finally, nitrogen eliminates harmful welding fumes.
The properties of nitrogen during the melting of thermoplastics have been known for several years, and are used in industry for various applications.
Holes - cracks - breaks - removal of material - rebuilding of bumper fixing lugs and eyes, without the extra thickness interfering with the reinstallation of the component.
Repairing a plastic component rather than changing it or throwing it away not only helps to protect the environment, but is also a significant source of profit.
It's not uncommon to find bumpers in skips whose only defects are torn or broken lugs or eyelets.
